2014 News

Trag Collected Nearly 5 Million Dinars to Support Flooded Communities
During May 2014 floods befell Serbia and many local communities were in danger. Trag Foundation reacted promptly and supported civil society organizations that actively helped in recovery of flood affects. Also, Trag has redirected the purpose of its account for "general support" and donations collected through this account were used to support local organizations involved in cleaning and recovery of endangered communities.

The Eighth Call for VIRTUS Award Expected Soon
Trag Foundation gladly announces that the eighth call for VIRTUS Award for Corporate Philanthropy will be open soon. The competition will be open in the period of January 12th to February 12th, and unlike the previous years, there would be no deadline extensions. The Launch of Kindness as a Gift! Campaign – For the Future of Local Communities in Serbia
Trag Foundation launches today the third annual fund raising campaign Kindness as a Gift! In previous two years, for the needs of Trag's financial endowment we have raised 330.000 USD. That would not be possible without donations of people with vision of better Serbia, and Charles Stewart Mott Foundation that has doubled already raised money.
This year, through campaign Kindness as a Gift! we are raising money for the oldest program of Trag Foundation – Active Communities. Our goal is to raise 15.000 Eur till the end of January 2015.

The Progress of the First Financial Endowment in Serbia and Initiative for General Support to Trag Foundation's Work
Two years ago Trag Foundation has established the first financial endowment for support to local initiatives, with the aim to invest in the future. Trag Foundation Has Signed Donation Agreements with SEKO Organizations and Memorandum on Cooperation for Establishing the Council for SEKO Mechanism
On Friday, November 21st 2014, at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Trag Foundation has signed the Memorandum on cooperation with the Office for European Integrations, TACSO Office and Office for cooperation with civil society. Signing of this memorandum marked the establishment of the Council for SEKO Mechanism that will in the future provide support to sector organizations of civil society in the area of planning, programming, monitoring and reporting on international developmental help. Today, Trag Foundation and 114 civil society organizations from 36 towns  have addressed the Initiative to change tax legislation to the Ministry of Finances of the Republic of Serbia. Held Conference “SIGNs for Philanthropy Development: a Regional Perspective”
On October 17th 2014, in Belgrade, the conference “SIGNs for Philanthropy Development: a regional perspective” took place, thus marking the end of the first and the beginning of the second phase of the program “SIGN for Sustainability”. The conference was organized by Trag Foundation and its regional partners from SIGN network, with support from European Union and Balkan Trust for Democracy, announcing the second phase of the program that would last for four years in six countries of our region. Members of SIGN network are Trag Foundation from Serbia, Mosaic Foundation from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Center for Institutional Development CIRa from Macedonia, fAKT Fund for active citizenship from Montenegro and FIQ Forum for civil initiatives from Kosovo. Trag Foundation Celebrated 15 Years of Work
In celebration of 15 years of its work, Trag Foundation has organized a conference Development of local communities and philanthropy in Serbia – overview of the results and look to the future in hotel Metropol Palace in Belgrade. The conference also presented the final event of the program Civil Society Forward, implemented in direct partnership with Institute for Sustainable Communities, a USAID partner in this program. Association Amity Organized Street Action to Celebrate International Alzheimer's Day
On Sunday, September 21st, association Amity has organized a street action in Belgrade downtown to celebrate International Alzheimer's Day. Volunteers of association “Strength of friendship – Amity” have used this day to talk to Belgrade citizens, mostly those that are concerned about this problem, who live with people suffering dementia or have them in nearest surroundings.

“Association Rainbow” from Šabac, in cooperation with Red Cross and Cultural Center Osečina has organized four psychological and creative workshops for children from Osečina and psychological support for their parents.

Scouts Squad “ Bajina Bašta” Rescues Houses Covered by Landslide Debris
In the following days, at least 50 volunteers of Scouts Squad “ Bajina Bašta” will work on rescuing houses affected by landslide debris, that can not be accessed by heavy machinery. They will also work on clearing local village road in order to prevent further landsliding that could lead to 4 villages being cut off from Bajina Bašta.

On March 31st , association “Jerina's Town” has organized panel discussion “Our Space” in the hall of People's University in Trstenik, within advocacy campaign for assignment of premises for Youth Club in this town.

The First Internet Conference IT Open Held in Kragujevac
On Saturday and Sunday, 29th and 30th of March 2014, Kragujevac hosted the first Internet conference IT open in organization of association of citizens Vido. The topic of the conference was “Search Engine Optimization”. The aim of the conference was to point out to SEO as a mean to increase knowledge of young people about the possibilities and advance use of Internet as a chance to employment, earning money and promotion. The conference provided opportunity to gain and advance SEO skills, exchange opinions between experts and beginners and overview of the current SEO trends.

On Sunday, March 16th , an exhibition football match “Play for the Club” took place at the field of FC Topoljak in Grabovac near Trstenik, in organization of Association of citizens “Jerina's Town”.
The match was played between professional football players from FC Topoljak - the first ranked team of municipal Trstenik league, and “Jerina's Town and friends” - team of members of local civil society organizations, musicians, sport and cultural workers. Football was played by more than 30 participants.

The premiere of the play “This is the country for us”, featuring for the first time persons with intellectual challenges, took place on January 29th in Cultural center Pančevo. The play is produced  by Association “Half Way There” from Pančevo.

Winners of the VIRTUS Award for Corporate Philanthropy for actions and programs implemented during 2013  have been announced during official ceremony in hotel Hyatt . The main award – for contribution at national level – was presented by Michael Davenport, the Head of the European Union Delegation in the Republic of Serbia. Awards have been presented for all eight categories.

The winners of VIRTUS Award for Corporate Philanthropy will be announced at the ceremony that will be held on January 18th 2014, in Hotel Hyatt Regency Belgrade, exactly at noon. Call for nominations was opened on September 16th 2013 and lasted until November 1st 2013. This year, Trag foundation received a great number of applications and, given that a lot of them came from new applicants, the jury had a demanding task to select the winners. As every year, VIRTUS jury is made out of prominent individuals and experts from business, civil sector, media and marketing.

The First Results of the Campaign Kindness as a Gift
Thanks to donations of people with vision, so far we have collected 11.728 US dollars within the campaign Kindness as a gift!
We need to raise 30.000 US dollars by the end of January 2014, that will be doubled by Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. If we collect 30.000 dollars, we will get 60.000 more for the support to local communities in Serbia!

Awarded Grants within the Program Public Advocacy in Local Communities
Within the program Public Advocacy in Local Communities, according to the decision of Donation Board, Trag Foundation has awarded grants in the total amount of 12.689.821 dinars to 11 civil society organizations that applied to call for proposal in August, and successfully passed three months educational process in October, November and December when they submitted final proposals.

How Does a Tree Grow
Association “Green Circle” has organized a selling exhibition of paintings within the action “How Does a Tree Grow”. The exhibition took place on December 11th in Bački Petrovac. Association has raised 44.500 dinars that will be doubled by Trag Foundation.
Gathered funds will be used for procurement of seedlings for four primary schools in Bački Petrovac Municipality, within the action “How Does a Tree Grow”.
