It Takes Two (currently not active)
Program is based on support to civil society organizations to incorporate Dutch “Buddy Model” in their work. This model provides opportunity for vulnerable groups (in this case children and young people with disabilities) to be actively involved in society. It can be applied in the work with various vulnerable groups, such are children without parental care, homeless, people facing intellectual challenges and others, with the aim to expand their social networks. On the other side, this model contributes to development of volunteer culture in respective local community, and to capacity building of civil society organizations in the area of volunteer management.
About the program It Takes Two
Based on arrived applications, ten organizations were selected to implement Buddy Model.
Chosen applicants have passed the training led by Dutch experts. Besides practical education for the implementation of this model, the training aimed to instigate cooperation between organizations from different regions in Serbia, as well as their mutual mentor support.
This program encompassed 10 partner civil society organizations, their local projects involved almost 190 volunteers, more than 170 beneficiaries, and over 2000 individual meetings and dozens of group activities have been organized. Organizations conducted volunteer programs in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, Kruševac, Trstenik, Valjevo, Obrenovac and Novi Pazar.
The program It Takes Two, its good practice examples of civic society organizations as well as gained experiences and knowledges during implementation of „Buddy Model“, we have shared through publication It Takes Two. This publication is based on results of analysis of program implementation, but also on impressions and experiences of volunteers and beneficiaries, and it has been realized in cooperation with Government of Republic of Serbia Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit.
Having in mind that program was designed in cooperation with colleagues from Netherlands, conveying Dutch experiences, publication also tackles its development and implementation in Netherlands.
Here you can find success stories from local communities regarding this program.
Be a Buddy Campaign
Balkan Community Initiative Fund (BCIF) in cooperation with Scan Foundation and Co-operating Netherlands Foundations for Central and Eastern Europe (CNF CEE) and in partnership with Volunteer Social Service of Young Explorers of Serbia, implemented campaign Be a Buddy, with the aim to promote volunteer concept among young people, and to increase social inclusion of marginalized groups in all aspects of Serbian society, especially children and young people with disabilities.
Through providing volunteer support to people with disabilities, campaign was inciting young people to be more human, solidary and tolerant and to show by personal example that social environment could be changed for better. Campaign contributed to development of volunteer concept, better social inclusion of marginalized children and youth to all segments of society, but also to overcoming the obstacles these persons face on daily basis.
Within the campaign, public lectures have been organized in high schools in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, Kruševac and Valjevo, as a way to instigate involvement of large number of young people in organizing and volunteering. In June 2012, street action took place in Belgrade, on Ada Ciganlija, that involved volunteers and people with disabilities.
